ITBP is best marching contingent


NEW DELHI JAN. 31. The Indo Tibetan Border Police, one of the Central Para Military Forces (CPMF), has been declared "The Best Marching Contingent" among all the CPMFs, which participated in this year's Republic Day celebrations at Rajpath.

The parade was commanded by Dy. Commandant, Angad Prasad Yadav. The ITBP contingent had earlier been awarded the best contingent trophy in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

The Union Defence Minister, George Fernandes, would present the prestigious best marching contingent trophy for the CPMFs to the ITBP contingent commander.

Demonstration for Bhojpuri

NEW DELHI JAN. 31. A large number of Bhojpuri-speaking people held a demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Friday demanding the inclusion of Bhojpuri language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The rally was organised by the Bhojpuri Samaj (Delhi) along with the Purvanchal Ekta Manch and the Vishwa Bhojpuri Sammelan.

`Treat brain stroke like heart attack'



The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ram Naik, giving the PCRA award for energy conservation to C. Mishra, Chief of Mechanical Technology Group, Tata Steel, at the valedictory function of oil and gas conservation fortnight in Delhi on Friday.

NEW DELHI JAN. 31. The Delhi Health and Social Welfare Minister, Yoganand Shastri, has said that " incidents of brain stroke are increasing due to change in human behaviour and change in materialistic approach. This is matter of great concern and a challenge to the medical and para-medical personnel of the Department of Neurology and should be dealt with as a major emergency just like a heart attack''.

Dr. Shastri was speaking at a symposium on "brain stroke" organised by the Neurology Department of G.B. Pant Hospital on Friday. "Brain stroke leaves a devastating disability, which poses a major economic challenge to the family and society in rehabilitating them."

CM visits Yashwant Place

NEW DELHI JAN. 31. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, today visited Yashwant Place at Chanakyapuri at the invitation of the Yashwant Place Traders' Welfare Association.

She spent some time with the shopkeepers and listened to their various problems. The shopkeepers requested her to accord a tourist status to the market and demanded that facilities like central air-conditioning along with parking, back up lights/emergency light, security and improved sanitation in and around market place be provided.

The shopkeepers also raised the issue of increase in licence deed at the rate of 10 per cent annually and requested her to intervene in this matter.

Lifetime award for homoeopath


NEW DELHI JAN. 31. The Board of Homoeopathy System of Medicine, Delhi, awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award" to senior Homoeopathic consultant, Brijender Singh, for his achievements over the past 20 years in the field.

The Delhi Health Minister, Yoganand Shastri, gave away this award to Dr. Singh at a function here earlier this week.
