ANANTAPUR, JAN. 31. The former MLA of Penukonda, Paritala Ravindra, is planning to conduct mass marriages on February 8 at Sri Tirumala Devara Devasthanam, near Muthyalampalli, in Ramagiri mandal of the district. It is being planned to perform 1,116 marriages. Talking to newspersons at the temple and at his residence at Venkatapuram today, Mr. Ravindra said arrangements had been made for the marriage function. Four hundred and sixty couples had registered names for the function and the registration would continue till the night of February 7. Couples would be given a pair of new clothes, `thali bottu' and `mettelu' by the organisers for the wedding at Venkteshwara Swamy temple. Mr. Ravindra said an amount of Rs. 1 crore would be spent. Young men and women from the district and from Pavagada, Bagepalli and nearby areas in Karnataka were expected for the function. The former MLA said they received requests for marriages of Muslim community. `Nikah' for couples from the community would be performed at a mosque at Gangampalli village.
