KOLKATA, JAN. 31. The much-awaited release of Peter Bleach, a key accused in the Purulia arms drop case, was today stalled in view of another pending case against him in Mumbai. The West Bengal Home Secretary, A.K. Deb, told PTI that the State Government, after a thorough scrutiny, discovered that a case by the customs authorities in Mumbai was pending against Bleach, who had been in jail for the last eight years. This was declared hours after he received a copy of Bleach's release order from the Justice Department of the Home Ministry last evening, which he forwarded to the Alipore Central jail authorities for compliance, he said. Mr. Deb said the matter had been referred to the Union Home Ministry and it was also being ascertained if more cases were pending against him in any other court before his release was given effect. ``We have referred the matter to the Home Ministry and his release depends subject to the fact that he has no other case against him under any other court.'' Till there was no clearance from the Centre, the release might be delayed, he said. PTI
