Nada Geethe to refer to Madhwacharya

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, JAN. 31. The State Cabinet has decided that the version of Kuvempu's "Jaya Bharata Jananiya Tanujathe..." with the reference to Madhwacharya will be the Nada Geethe (State song).

The issue sparked off a controversy when the Government earlier decided to adopt the version of the poem without the reference to Madhwacharya as the Nada Geethe. Friday's decision was taken after a long discussion, the Higher Education and Information Minister, G. Parameshwar, told reporters.

Decision welcomed

Our Hubli Special Correspondent writes:

Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math has expressed satisfaction over the decision of the Cabinet.

After presiding over the Akhila Bharata Madhwa Tatwagnana Sammelan, which concluded here on Friday, the seer told The Hindu that the issue of the exclusion of Madhwacharya's name from the song was raised many times at the conference. However, he expressed himself against adopting a resolution. He told the delegates that "the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, has promised to do the needful and we will wait for him to redeem the promise".

The four-day conference did not pass any resolution. Since the resolutions passed at the previous conferences were not implemented, he did not see any point in passing any more of them, he added.
