NEW DELHI, JAN. 31. From cultural extravaganzas to academic debates, the golden jubilee celebrations of Delhi University's prestigious Kirori Mal College will be marked by events aimed at building up the vibrant and organic network of the college's alumni. To be inaugurated on the College Founder's Day on February 3, the year-long golden jubilee celebrations would be aimed at enhancing the comprehensive profile of the institution. "Our students have made a name for themselves in diverse fields and through the golden jubilee celebrations we would like to bring them together. In fact, some of our illustrious alumni from the field of art and culture have suggested a mega star night involving all of them that could be used as a fund-raising event,'' the Kirori Mal Principal, Bhim Sen Singh, said today. With the college's alumni list boasting of some of the big names of art and culture - right from superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Khulbushan Kharbanda, Satish Kaushik and Dinesh Thakur to Shakti Kapoor, Ravi Vaswani and singer KK - the star night promises to be a grand affair. But that is not all. The year-long celebrations would see various academic events too. This would include seminars and debates on national issues. "We would be holding national seminars on various disciplines as well as inter-disciplinary ones. The first such seminar will be in the Chemistry Department on Food and Nutrition,'' informed Inder Kapahy, the convenor of the College. While pointing out that the idea behind the cultural programmes would be to evolve the medium for social interface as well as academic aspects, he said an attempt would also be made to rope in the alumni in helping generate more funds for the college. "The idea is to raise funds for improving the infrastructure of the college and support facilities in the college,'' said Mr. Kapahy.
