HEJMADY (UDUPI DT.), JAN. 31. Vinaykumar Sorake, MP, on Saturday said programmes such as Stree Shakti launched by the State Government would go a long way in empowering women financially. He was speaking after inaugurating the Kaup Kshetra Stree Shakti SHGs Multipurpose Cooperative Society here. Mr. Sorake said a society could progress only when women became financially independent. It was essential to provide training to women to take up various vocations such as making handicrafts. The Chairman of the SCDCC Bank, M.N. Rajendra Kumar, said it was necessary to find markets for products manufactured by self-help groups (SHGs). Stree Shakti SHGs had given confidence to women. The empowerment of women would give them equal status with men, he said and added that the Stree Shakti SHGs in the State had saved Rs. 750 crore.
