Madras Medical College launches web site

CHENNAI, JAN. 31. The Madras Medical College has launched a web site and Internet facilities on their premises.

The college dean, M. Ganapathy, said the web site, www.madrasmedicalcollege.edu., would provide information on courses offered and 84 departments, attached to the institution.

The site also gives a detailed account on the history of the college, started in 1835 and named as the Madras Medical College in 1850.

Mr. Ganapathy said the site would be helpful for an interaction between alumni, students, faculty and the public. Besides information pertaining to the college, the site has details of services rendered by the Government General Hospital and facilities to be provided in the new building under construction.

Some of the important public information featured in the site include the hospital statistics on bed strength, outpatients, average length of stay by patients and number of operations performed during 2000-2003.

The web site also has a link to the alumni cell where the addresses of the alumni of the college are provided and a picture gallery of the college and the hospital.

It will be upgraded every month. Other links such as frequently asked questions and obtaining online applications would be added in a few months, Dr. Ganapathy said.

About the Internet facility, he said the students of the college, totalling to about 1,800 and the faculty could access the Internet to learn about current trends in the medical field.
