Mobile phone showroom at Alwarpet burgled

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JAN. 31. Burglars broke into a mobile phone showroom on C.P. Ramaswami Road, Alwarpet, on Friday night and decamped with mobile phones, cash and jewellery totally worth Rs. 8 lakhs.

Police said the miscreants gained entry into the shop through the rear door and then broke through the false ceiling. They took away 64 mobile phones, Rs. 1.5 lakhs in cash and 12 sovereigns of jewellery. The jewellery reportedly belonged to a relative of the shop owner.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police-Mylapore, K.P. Shanmugarajeswaran, requested the shop owners, who keep costly items in their shops, to install a burglar alarm system to prevent any break in.
