NEW DELHI, JAN. 31 . The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, tonight met the Bahujan Samaj Party chief, Mayawati, at the latter's residence. Party sources indicated that this was in continuance of Congress efforts to forge a secular alliance for the coming Lok Sabha elections. The BSP, which has opened talks with the Congress for a possible alliance in Uttar Pradesh ahead of these elections, had outlined its expectations on an electoral pact. The BSP had earlier indicated that while considering a possible understanding with the Congress it would prefer to be assured of an understanding beyond Uttar Pradesh, and a U.P.-centric agreement in the event of Assembly polls later.
