Shun differences, MP tells TDP men

By Our Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 31. M.V.V.S. Murthy, MP, on Saturday exhorted Telugu Desam Party leaders and workers to set aside their differences and work unitedly to transform the pro-establishment `undercurrent' into votes in the coming elections. He was addressing party workers at a meeting organised by the TDP urban district unit to review steps for preparing the party for the simultaneous elections to the Assembly and the Lok Sabha likely to be held in April or May.

Mr. Murthy said: "We may be having differences but we have to forget everything in the larger interest of party and work hard in a transparent manner.'' Stating that there was a strong undercurrent in favour of the party due to the `feel-good' factor for the good governance provided by the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, and the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, he told the party cadres to work together to make use of the pre-poll climate.

Describing Mr. Vajpayee as a statesman, he said partymen should not take cognizance of mudslinging by the Opposition parties. "Now we have to highlight the achievements of Mr. Vajpayee and Mr. Chandrababu Naidu and bring our party back to power with a thumping majority,'' he said.

Presiding over the meeting, the TDP urban district president, Bharanikana Rama Rao, advised party members to take an active part in enrolling genuine voters whose names could not be included in the revised electoral rolls. Reminding them that February 5 was the last date for submission of Form 6, he said ward and booth committee office-bearers of the party should take up the cases of genuine voters. He said that the party would celebrate `jhanda panduga' on February 9 by distributing party flags in different areas. During the visit, partymen should also explain the achievements of the Chandrababu Naidu Government, he pointed out.

The VUDA Chairman, S.A. Rehaman, the former MLAs, Pinninti Varalakshmi, P.G.V.R. Naidu, Palla Simhachalam, the former urban district convener of TDP, M. Sundaram Patrudu, and others, spoke.
