Online coaching refund introduced

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, JAN. 31 . The Southern Railway today introduced the `online coaching refund system' in the city to facilitate an immediate refund of fare on untravelled tickets.

The passengers can avail themselves of cash refund on untravelled tickets at the destination, subject to the deduction of cancellation charges. To begin with, the service has been introduced for the Chennai Egmore-Madurai Pandyan and Vaigai Superfast Express trains.

"With the introduction of this system, the passengers need not apply to the Chief Commercial Manager and wait for the refund. The facility will be extended to other express trains soon. On an average, there are at least 10 passengers a train who claim refund on untravelled tickets, " a railway official said.

Meanwhile, the `Unreserved Ticketing System' (UTS) is likely to be launched soon. The UTS will help the passengers purchase unreserved tickets at computerised reservation counters for destinations all over the country. "This will avoid the inconvenience of standing in queues to purchase unreserved tickets in the last minute," the official said.
