dated February 2, 1954: Tributes to Tiger Varadachariar

"Tiger Varadachariar Day" was observed at Kalakshetra, Adyar, on January 31. Mr. C. Rajagopalachari, Chief Minister, was among those present on the occasion. Sri Vasudevachar of Mysore presided. The celebrations commenced with puja and singing of the compositions of Tiger Varadachariar. Welcoming the gathering, Srimathi Rukmini Devi referred to the contribution of Tiger Varadachariar to the progress of Kalakshetra.

Dr. James Cousins paid a tribute to the services of Tiger Varadachariar in the cause of music. He made particular mention of his "power of the voice". Referring to the ideals of Kalakshetra, to the promotion of which Tiger Varadachariar had contributed considerably, he said that they aimed at the cultivation of the finest and the best in human nature without consideration of popular appeal.
