NEW DELHI, FEB. 1. Leander Paes and Martina Navratilova faltered at the last hurdle, going down in the mixed doubles final of the Australian Open here on Sunday. The fourth-seeded Paes-Martina duo was upset by the unseeded pair of Russian Elena Bovina and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia-Montenegro 1-6, 6-7 (3/7). Bovina was a mixed doubles finalist at the French Open in 2002 while Zimonjic is ranked 33 in doubles with seven titles to his credit. Serbian Zimonjic and Russian Bovina broke both Navratilova and Paes's serves as they raced through the first set in 23 minutes. Navratilova and Paes forced the second set to a tiebreaker, where Zimonjic and Bovina quickly opened a 6-1 lead before taking the decider 7-3 to win their first title together.
