Fuel conservation award for RTC
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
FEB. 1.
A Guinness Book record-holder for being the largest fleet owner, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) with 19,250 buses under its wings has several feathers in its cap. The latest is a diesel conservation award from the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), for the highest KMPL (kilometres per litre), at an average of 5.24.
The winner, though, is Gujarat, with 5.3 KMPL and a fleet strength of just 8,000 buses and all of them only rural services, which generally means a better KMPL than urban services. The runner-up award was presented by the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ram Naik, to M.V. Nagavender Rao, Executive Director, Engineering, of the APSRTC at New Delhi recently.
Compared with Gujarat, there are more urban services in Andhra Pradesh - in the twin cities (2,600 buses), Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
This apart, the APSRTC operates more services on ghat roads like the Tirupati-Tirumala sector, in Visakhapatnam, Paderu and in Adilabad district.
