CITU's call on industrial strike
M. Veeraiah, general secretary of CITU, said in a press release on Sunday that on February 7 district-level joint conventions would be organised on the eve of the strike. Meanwhile, the All-India Kisan Sabha, which concluded its two-day meeting here on January 31, called upon peasantry and agricultural workers in the country to take to the streets on February 24 in response to the strike called by eight major central trade union organisations.
2 boys of Borstal School escape
According to reports, the inmates -- Bachana Haribabu (19), resident of Akkayapalem in Visakhapatnam, and David Raju (20) of Kancharlapalam also of Visakhapatnam -- were lodged in the school on conviction in separate theft cases. Haribabu was brought to the school in May last while David Raju was lodged here since December last. Today being Sunday, the inmates were allowed to play in the volleyball court inside the school adjoining the district jail. A few inmates went back to their cell after playing the game, but Haribabu and David Raju stayed back on the pretext that they wanted to play. Later, they escaped by scaling wall.
TRS demands white paper on Nizam's jewellery
Its senior leader, A. Narendra, at a news conference here on Sunday alleged that ornaments worth Rs. 1,000 crores had been replaced with artificial jewellery with the connivance of the Government. Only the fake jewellery would be displayed at the Chowmohalla museum to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, later this month, he alleged. Valuable antiques, particularly master showpieces like daggers, were stolen from the collections regularly, he added. The TRS stand to sell Nizam's jewellery for development of Telangana was vindicated in these circumstances when the wealth got frittered away, he said.
Congress cell meet put off
The APCC president, D. Srinivas, will attend the meeting as chief guest while Devara Subba Rao, chairman of the wing, will preside. Many senior Congress leaders will also participate in the meeting, according to a press release.

Website launched Hyderabad: The Social Welfare Minister, J. R. Pushpa Raj, has inaugurated a website exclusively for residential educational institutions run by the AP Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society, a departmental wing. The site gives details of the 294 institutions of the society spread all over the State and of the 1.15 lakh inmates. The Principal Secretary of the Department, Ajayendra Pyal, the society Secretary, Poonam Malakondaiah, and others were present at the brief function organised at Sankshema Bhavan. The site is www.apswreis.net.

Arrangements for `Arogya Mela' reviewed
Mr. Anantha Ramu reviewed the arrangements for the mela at a meeting on Saturday. He said that free medical services would be provided to the deserving. More than 15 specialists and 40 doctors would be available for consultations. The Nellore MP, V. Rajeswaramma, said that Rs. 8 lakhs had been sanctioned by the Union Health Ministry for the health camp.
