HYDERABAD, FEB. 1. A number of Government Orders have been issued in the past few days settling long-pending problems of different sections. The GO issued on January 23 upgrades 89 posts of assistant section officers in the Secretariat to that of section officers. The GO facilitates inter-departmental transfers to assistant section officers as an extra benefit. Another order, dated January 16, provides the much needed clarity by defining minority institutions. Ambiguity on this count has been the source of worry and unrest as the children of minorities are denied seats in the very institutions using their label. The GO stipulates that the institutions enjoying minority status should have been established by the particular stated minority group with certain percentage of members on the management from that group only. The third GO provides for allocation of 5 tmcft of Tungabhadra waters to the Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir out of the State's share from the Tungabhadra reservoir. The 5 tmcft comes out of saving made in KC Canal under modernisation, an official said. Another order places "Dudekulas" in "B" category of Backward Classes, entitling them to benefits on a par with the listed 93 Backward Castes. The issue figured twice at the Chief Minister's video-conferencesrecently through which members belonging to this community complained that they were rejected by both sides--minorities and BCs.
