Naxals' bid to blast tourism project
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR,
FEB. 1.
Naxalites, belonging to the People's War, tried to blast the `Kumbhakarna' tourism project near Penukonda in the district last night. However, no major damage was caused to the structure.
When contacted, the Superintendent of Police, Anil Kumar, said that the structure developed cracks as naxalites exploded a couple of bombs. Armed naxalites of the Penna Area Committee of the People's War went to the tourism spot around 11 p.m. and exploded a couple of bombs at the structure.
They left a letter at the site asking people to observe bandh on February 3 and also stage one-month protest against fake encounters. They described the recent encounter killings of their three leaders in Cuddapah and Chittoor districts as police murders. Alleging that three more naxalites were in the police custody, they said that the SP and TDP leaders would be held responsible if any harm was caused to them. However, the SP denied of having anybody in the police custody.
