BJP poser to Congress on oil bribe scandal

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 1. The Bharatiya Janata Party has demanded that the Central Government should help the current Iraqi Governing Council to get to the bottom of allegations that the deposed Saddam Hussein regime had given Rs. 150 crores worth of oil to the Congress when it was in power at the Centre.

Relying on reports originating from Iraq, the BJP has alleged that the Saddam regime gave 10,00,000 million barrels of oil to the Congress. In this connection, the Congress must answer a lot of questions, the BJP spokesperson, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, said.

He also posed 10 questions to the Congress: What was the compulsion for the Congress to take this oil? What was the deal struck between the former Iraqi ruler and the Congress? Did the Congress give anything to Saddam Hussein? Where did the Congress sell this oil? Into which account was the money deposited? How was the money spent? When will the Congress give a full account of this "oil bribe scandal?"
