Mulayam wins byelection GANNAUR, FEB. 1. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, has won the Gannaur Assembly byelection by a record margin. Mr. Yadav polled 1,83,899 votes against 11,314 polled by the Bahujan Samaj Party's Arif Ali. Gulfam Yadav of the BJP polled only 6,941 votes. Both Mr. Ali and Mr. Gulfam Yadav have forfeited their deposits. The seat fell vacant after a Samajwadi Party member resigned to pave the way for Mr. Yadav to contest after he became the Chief Minister. In yesterday's repolling a record number of 84.93 per cent votes was polled in 107 booths. The byelection was held on January 24.
