TIRUCHI, FEB.1 . The Junior Red Cross units of the Khajamian Higher Secondary School and Periyar Maniyammai Girls Higher Secondary School jointly organised a daylong training-cum-study camp at the Khajamian School premises on Saturday. The participants including girls were imparted training in first aid by the Scouts and Guides Commissioner (training), Syed Riyaz Pasha. The training included improving the skills of pupils in providing first aid, basic techniques in swimming and creating an awareness of initiating instant action in crisis management by presence of mind. The importance of providing adequate aeration facility for those injured in road mishap without surrounding them was explained. The Headmaster of the Mukkulathor Higher Secondary School, N. Periasamy, who was the chief guest at the valediction, called upon the student community to develop a sense of commitment to the society through selfless service. Referring to the ten Commandments of the President, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Mr. Periasamy said the call for elimination of illiteracy and child labour, promoting communal harmony, protecting and increasing forest cover should be given deep consideration by the whole society. The district convener of the Junior Red Cross, P. Jeevanantham, and its block convener, P. Ramasamy, explained the functioning of the JRC.
