NAGERCOIL, FEB. 1. The rank and file in the Congress in Kanyakumari district are sore over the party's `inability' to `secure' the Nagercoil seat during the seat-sharing negotiations with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for the Lok Sabha elections. The handing over of the seat to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has evoked protest from partymen in the district. They burnt effigies of the All-India Congress Committee general secretary, Kamal Nath, at two places and indulged in slogan shouting, denouncing the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi. Members laid siege to the district party office here this evening. However, the district president, T. Jayapal, convened a meeting, which the cadres refused to attend but later relented. In a resolution passed, the party has asked the Congress Central and State Committees obtain the seat.
