By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUCHI, FEB. 1. The railway police have arrested one person who was part of a group that tried to manhandle a superannuating senior official of the Golden Rock Workshops at the Tiruchi Railway Junction here on Saturday. They are on the look out for four more persons. Several officials and staff of the Golden Rock Workshops, who had assembled to bid farewell to the superannuated Deputy Chief Mechanical Engineer, S.M. Krishnan, who was leaving for Chennai by the Guryvayur-Chennai Express on Saturday, were shocked when a mob lunged ahead to assault Mr. Krishnan and sped away hastily. The police, with whom a complaint was lodged, found out that the incident was a backlash to the departmental action Mr. Krishnan had initiated on some union leaders. Some members of the union including L. Arputharaj (45), Babu Rajendran (43), Chandran, Lakshmanan and Manoharan gathered on the day Mr. Krishnan was retiring and tried to attack him at the platform when he was leaving for Chennai. While Babu Rajendran has been picked up, the police are on the look out for the other four persons, said to be involved in the incident.
