Armed robber nabbed

NEW DELHI FEB. 1. Showing exemplary courage, an off-duty Traffic police personnel nabbed an armed robber who was fleeing after robbing a shopkeeper of Rs. 5.75 lakhs at Shahdara in North-East Delhi on Saturday. Subsequently, one of his associates was also arrested.

The incident took place when Vishnu Aggarwal, who owns a hardware shop, downed the shutters and was walking towards his car with his business partners, Sanjay Potdar and Vimlesh Garg. As he was walking with the briefcase, which contained the day's collections, two men on a motorcycle reached the spot and tried to snatch the briefcase.

Mr. Aggarwal offered resistance, upon which one of the robbers took out a firearm and threatened him. Meanwhile, two of their accomplices, waiting nearby on another motorcycle, also moved in.

After snatching the bag from Mr. Aggarwal, the culprit wielding the firearm asked his other accomplices to flee. Subsequently, three of them sped off on the motorcycles. But just then Head Constable Om Prakash, posted with the Traffic Department, saw one of them fleeing suspiciously with a bag and gave him a chase. Though the culprit trained the firearm at him and threatened to shoot, the Head Constable pounced at the robber and overpowered him with the help of some local people. In the process, Om Prakash also sustained some injuries.

During interrogation, the culprit identified himself as Mohammad Moni Khan. He disclosed that his accomplice, Lalit Sharma, had masterminded the robbery. At his instance, the police arrested one of his accomplices, Prakash, and have launched a hunt for the other suspects.
