SCT staff union plea

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 1. The Sree Chithra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology Staff Union has urged the Government to reconsider its decision to collect fee for MRI and CT scans and also for costly medicines from patients below the poverty line. In a statement here today, the general secretary of the union has appealed to the Government to provide risk allowance for the staff, provision of compensatory off for employees after night duty and also for the implementation of the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission with retrospective effect.

Elected office-bearers

G. Padmanabha Pillai has been elected president, G. K. Madhavan Nair secretary and V. Rajeev Kumar joint secretary of the Council of Residents' Associations, Sasthamangalam.

Seminar on water

The need for preventing misuse of water and steps for the conservation of water were stressed at a seminar on "Water and environment conservation-a Gandhian view" organised by the State Gandhi Darshan Samithi as part of the Gandhian Kalotsavam in the city on Sunday. The need for adopting various methods such as rainwater harvesting and also to carry out awareness camps throughout the State for conservation of water were also stressed at the seminar. The Director of the Gandhi Darsan Samithi, Jacob Pulickan, the secretary of the Gandhi Peace Foundation, C. G. Vasudevan Nair, and the director of the Economics and Statistics Department, P. C. Jain, also spoke.

Yoga therapy course

The Holistic Medicine and Stress Research Unit under the Department of Medicine, Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, is organising a 15-day yoga therapy programme from Monday.
