THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 1 . A 57-year-old woman was killed when she was run over by a train engine while attempting to cross the railway track under the overbridge at Pettah on Sunday evening. Police identified the deceased as Indira, a resident of Anayara. An official said the accident occurred at around 5 p.m. when the woman was `caught off guard' by the engine which was changing track under the bridge. Meanwhile, local people blocked the track accusing the railway department of `not informing' the local residents about the movement of railway engines. The situation was defused following the intervention of the Pettah police. Three trains, the Inter-city Express, Vanchinadu Express and Kollam-Nagercoil shuttle, were delayed for nearly half-an-hour owing to the incident.
