THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 1. Bakrid was celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety in the city on Sunday. The Kerala Muslim Cultural forum observed Bakrid as `Matha Maitri Sandesha Dinam'. The `ID Meet' organised by the forum was inaugurated by the Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy. The forum State president, A. Najamudeen, presided over the function. Mr. Najamudeen also inaugurated the Statewide distribution of Id proclamation carrying the message of communal harmony and brotherhood. The messages would be delivered to Hindu and Christian places of worship. The first copy of the proclamation was handed over to Swamy Veeraspranananda today. Later, the head of the Sree Ramakrishna Ashramam at Nettayam, Swamy Prasanthananda, addressed a meeting organised by the Muslim Cultural Forum at Thampanoor. The Imam of the Juma Masjid (Kesavadasapuram), Panipra Ibrahim Bakhvi, and Immanuel Kaniyamvilapil participated in the meeting. The forum also organised `Sneha Kuttayimma' at various places in the district. People belonging to all religions participated in the Bakrid celebrations. The C.H. Muhammad Koya Educational Society released Id cards in connection with the Bakrid celebrations. The Samskarika Kairali also organised Bakrid celebrations at the Satyan Memorial Hall in the city. The Kerala Congress leader, Antony Raju, ex-MLA, presided over the meeting. The Bakrid celebrations in the city were marked by prayer meetings and special feasts.
