Sir, I refer to the article, "Controlling population growth" (Jan. 31). All the benefits of our development since Independence have been neutralised by the burgeoning population. Ours was one of the earliest nations to adopt family planning as a national programme and in spite of the enormous resources spent on this endeavour, our population stands at 100 crores plus. Population control programmes should be rigorously implemented with a series of disincentives like denial of ration cards.
