Hero Honda sales up 35 p.c. in January

CHENNAI, FEB. 2. Hero Honda's two wheeler sales in January have risen by 35 per cent to 1.96 lakh units.

The cumulative sales for April -January 2003-04 have increased by 17 per cent to 16.73 lakh units from 14.27 lakh units during the corresponding period in the previous year. The company strengthened its premium segment range with the launch of Ambition135.

Bajaj Auto

Bajaj Auto has clocked a 3 per cent growth in two wheeler sales in January at 1.07 lakh units against 1.04 lakh units in January 2003. It recorded a 4.8 per cent rise in two and three wheelers in the month under review over 1.21 lakh units sold in the same period in the previous year, the company said in a release .

Exports recorded a 49 per cent increase at 15,029 units against 10,089 units, the release added.

The company said the executive and premium segments recovered a 12.6 per cent growth in two wheelers while in the executive segment, Bajaj Caliber 115 and Bajaj Wind 125 together accounted for 102 per cent growth.

Three wheelers showed a 15.6 per cent growth at 20,150 units against 17,426 units.

TVS Motor

TVS Motor Company's total two wheeler sales in January have increased to 98,020 units from 96,409 units, a growth of 2 per cent over the same period in the previous year. Motorcycle sales were lower at 59,844 units against 61,223 units. But sales over December have risen by 14 per cent, despite the drop in sales of its two stroke Max motorcycles, says a release.

TVS Centra sales are growing, the release adds. TVS Victor has crossed the 8 lakh unit mark. The motorcycle sales were further augmented by the sale of Fiero F2. With the launch of TVS Centra and other new models, the company expects accelerated growth.

Scooterette sales grew by 14 per cent at 14,771 units in January against 12,947 units in the previous last year. The company plans to concentrate in ungeared below 100 cc. Scooterette segment. Moped sales stood at 23,405 units against 22,239 units, a growth of 5 per cent.

On the export front, the company has achieved a growth of 178 per cent in April-January 2004 at 21,815 units.
