MANGALORE, FEB. 2. The newly formed Mayors Council of Karnataka has submitted a three-point proposal to the Government to be considered while presenting the Budget. The Mayor of Mangalore and General Secretary of the Council, K. Diwakar, said a share in stamp duty should be allocated to the city corporations. The council had urged the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, who holds the Finance portfolio, to allocate 25 per cent share in taxes collected locally by the Transport Department and 50 per cent share in infrastructure cess on petrol and diesel to the respective corporations. This would help the civic bodies repay dues to the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank. In a press release, Mr. Diwakar said tax on vacant land should be made optional in coastal districts and the city corporations could be allowed to decide the percentage of depreciation based on local geographical conditions.
