SIRSI, FEB. 2. Chandrashekar Kambar, Kannada litterateur, was presented with the Pampa Award at the inauguration of "Kadambotsava" at Banavasi near here today. The Minister of State for Kannada and Culture, Rani Satish, gave away the award. Replying to the felicitation, Mr. Kambar said the Pampa Award was the most prestigious in Kannada literature. He said it was Pampa and Allamaprabhu who made Banavasi famous with their vachanasahitya. R.V. Deshpande, Minister for Large- and Medium-scale Industries and district in-charge, who presided over the function, said cultural festivals should be made events for the people. He said Banavasi had been included in the U.N. Development Project and Rs. one crore was sanctioned to provide basic amenities in the town. The Minister for Municipal Administration, Kumar Bangarappa, spoke. Vivekanand Vaidya, J.D. Naik, Mohan Shetty, all MLAs, B.S. Horatti, MLC, and Ramakrishna Moolimani, President of Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat, were present The Director of Kannada and Culture, M. Srinivas, welcomed the gathering.
