Ravi Venkatesan to head Microsoft India

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 2. Microsoft today announced the appointment of Ravi Venkatesan as Chairman and General Manager of Microsoft India, a newly created post in view of the company's increase in operations in the region.

The company earlier had a President for Microsoft India (Rajiv Nair) who along with the Managing Director (Rajiv Kaul) looked after sales and marketing functions of the company. Mr. Venkatesan will have the additional responsibility of two development centres in Hyderabad and the outsourcing centre in Bangalore.

Earlier, Microsoft Corporation looked after the three centres directly. Mr. Nair has since become the company's Strategic Advisor for the Asia Pacific region while Mr. Kaul continues as MD with operational responsibility for the sales and marketing outlets.

Before joining Microsoft, Mr. Venkatesan, an IIT Bombay alumnus, served as Chairman of Cummins India, a U.S.-based firm..
