Hospital to provide emergency care to road accident victims

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERAEBAD, FEB. 2. Global Hospital will soon join hands with the State Government in providing emergency care to road accident victims on a 100-km stretch of the Hyderabad-Mumbai National Highway under the proposed Andhra Pradesh emergency network. To render emergency care it is opening a 50-bed institute of neurosciences, trauma and orthopaedics at Road no.1 Banjara Hills, with an investment of over Rs.5 crores.

The institute will be inaugurated on February 4 by the Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, K. Ravindranath, managing director of the hospital, told a press conference here on Monday. Details of the tie-up with the Government are being worked out. The institute has a pool of good professionals to meet today's requirements.

He stressed that timely provision of medical aid makes all the difference between life and death in road accident cases. A victim had to be rushed to a competent medical facility in the first hour— called the golden hour— if he/she is to be saved from certain death or permanent disability. To meet this need the hospital would soon have a network of ambulances and paramedical professionals to rush the aid to accident victims.

The neurosciences wing of the institute, he said, would tackle emergencies like acute stroke (including thrombolysis), uncontrolled fits, any type of coma, brain tumours, spinal problems and neurological infections. It has staff for administering the therapy for spasticity, cerebral palsy, dystonia and other ailments.
