Shahi Imam for reconstruction of Babri Masjid

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 2. The Shahi Imam of Delhi's Fatehpuri Masjid, Mufti Mohammad Mukarram Ahmed, today used his Id address to make out a case for electing a secular Government in the coming Lok Sabha elections while accusing the Vajpayee Government of sheltering communal forces.

Addressing the congregation, the Shahi Imam asserted that the Babri Masjid ought to be reconstructed at its original site, and urged both India and Pakistan to continue with the effort to resolve the Kashmir issue.

Condemning the removal of the Saddam Hussein Government in Iraq, he said the United Nations should accelerate the process to bring lasting peace to the region.
