Sikkim Govt. to recommend dissolution of Assembly
By Our Special Correspondent
KOLKATA,
FEB. 2.
"The decision to recommend the dissolution of the sixth Sikkim Assembly so that the State can go in for Assembly elections simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls will be ratified at a meeting of the State Cabinet on February 7," the Chief Minister, Pawan Kumar Chamling, told The Hindu over telephone from Gangtok today.
Mr. Chamling apprised the Governor, V. Rama Rao, of his Government's intentions to have simultaneous elections when he called on the latter during the day. He also informed Mr. Rao of the decision taken by the central committee of the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front to hold a three-day special session of the Assembly from Wednesday to pass the vote-on-account.
"Though the tenure of the present Government does not expire till October, we have already written to the Election Commission [informing him] of our desire for simultaneous polls in the State," Mr. Chamling told this newspaper.
