This Day That Age
Mr. C. Subramaniam, Minister for Finance, presided over Avvaiyar Day held at Gemini Studios in Madras. The occasion was availed of to present shields to Srimathi K.B. Sundarambal who distinguished herself in the role of Avvaiyar in the film and to Mr. Framji Dorabji of the Wellington Talkies. Copies of a souvenir entitled "Gemini Avvaiyar Anbu Malar" were distributed to those present. Expressing his joy on being instrumental in producing a picture which had met with universal approval, Mr. Vasan said that but for Srimathi Sundarambal, it could not have been taken. She was the creator of Avvaiyar in every sense of the word. Similarly, but for the direction of Mr. Kothamangalam Subbu, it would not have been possible to recapture Tamil culture and Tamil art, which ran right through Avvaiyar. He also thanked Mr. Framji Dorabji, who exhibited the picture in his theatre for 25 weeks. Smt. Sundarambal said she felt it was their affection that made them think that she fitted the role of Avvaiyar so well.
