Foreign origin

Sir, — First it was P.A. Sangma then Pramod Mahajan. The latest to raise the foreign origin of Sonia Gandhi is Chandrababu Naidu. Mr. Naidu has also introduced the `self respect' slogan and is advocating a constitutional amendment barring naturalised citizens from holding high office. Let not our politicians for their short-term political gains ruin the chances of so many foreigners of Indian origin.

G.M. Rama Rao,
Visakhapatnam, A.P.

Sir, — Harping on the foreign origin of Ms. Gandhi is nothing but a political gimmick. She is a person whose demeanour is Indian in every sense. Let us at least give her a chance to prove herself.

Anupkiran Kaur,
Chandigarh
