Farmers assured of more water

By Our Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD, FEB. 3. The District Collector, Sanjeev Kaushik, today assured the farmers who were agitating in front of the Chittur tahsildar's office of more water to save the standing second crop from the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project.

He said the State Government had got an assurance from its Tamil Nadu counterpart that it would release 200 mcft water for Chitturpuzha instead of the 160 mcft agreed earlier. However, the farmers said they needed at least 500 mcft water to save the second crop. The Collector assured the agitating farmers that he along with the officials of the Water Resources Department would inspect the Mancadavu point where water was measured for Kerala to see that the due share of released water reached Chittur. Later, the farmers announced the withdrawal of the agitation.
