Interim railway budget passed

NEW DELHI, FEB. 3 . The Lok Sabha today passed by voice vote the Interim Railway Budget with a vote-on-account for Rs. 26,000 crores for expenditure in the first four months of the next financial year.

The House also accorded its approval for the Demands for Grants for 2004-05, Supplementary Demands for Grants 2003-04, Demands for Excess Grant 2001-02 of the Railways as also relevant appropriation bills after a four-hour debate. Earlier, it turned down the cut motions put to vote collectively.

In his reply, the Railway Minister, Nitish Kumar, refuted the charge of poor performance and said the Railways' financial health had improved.
