NEW DELHI, FEB. 3. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Mehta Vidyalaya bid farewell to its outgoing students of Class XII at a solemn function here over the week-end amid Vedic chants, all-religion prayers, citations for each student read out by the class teachers, administration of a pledge to the students by the Principal, G.S. Negi, in Upanishadic tradition, and a "blessing" ceremony. Many students had tears in their eyes while receiving the blessings from their teachers and parents as part of the ceremony, for the pain of parting from the school weighed heavy on them. The Director of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Indranath Choudhury, was the chief guest. Wishing the students the very best "at the threshold of a new phase of life", he urged them to be fearless by following the path of truth and righteousness. "You should not be negligent of social welfare, of good, of heritage, and the study of higher knowledge." House captains and other outstanding students were given mementos along with citations. The Kanwar Chopra Memorial Trophy was given away to Shashank and Shruti, the Head Boy and Head Girl of the school, for excellent leadership. The Secretary of the Old Students' Association recalled the contribution of the teachers and honoured Ms. Shiva Gupta and Ms. Geeta Kapoor with Saraswati Samman on completion of 25 years of dedicated service to the Bhavan.
