PONDICHERRY, FEB. 3. The police have arrested a six-member gang in connection with the alleged murder of a painter, A. Suresh, yesterday. The Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order), Sunil Garg, told newsmen here today that the painter was coming on a moped from his house at Muthialpet when he was intercepted by the gang at the Karuvadikuppam-Muthialpet junction. He was fatally attacked with a knife and an iron pipe. The police first arrested Ganesan of Ganapathy nagar in the Muthialpet block. Subsequently Karthi, Mani, Ezhumalai, Karthik and Ramesh were held today. It was alleged that a dispute arose between the deceased and others on the sharing of `kalasams' containing holy water during the Kumbhabhishekam of a temple which was performed on Sunday last. Suresh was one of the members of the temple management committee.
