Rupesh Roy downs Chris Eaton

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 3. Rupesh Roy pushed himself into a tight corner but pulled himself out in time in beating Chris Eaton of Britain 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 in the first round of the Adidas ITF grade `II' junior tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Tuesday. Two other leading Indian juniors, Divij Sharan and Tushar Liberhan played a sharp game in overwhelming their Kazakh and Uzbek opponents. In the girls event, the top-seeded Madura Ranganathan dismissed the challenge from the tall Tjasa Smrekar of Slovenia, while Sandhya Nagaraj humbled compatriot Ashmitha Easwaramurthi after a tussle in the second set.

Local girl, Parul Goswami was serving for the set at 5-4 against the third-seeded I-Hsuan Hwang of ChineseTaipei, the champion last week, but was far too erratic and lost her way.
