KOCHI, FEB. 3. A Syndicate sub-committee of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat), which explored the possibility of the institution regaining its status as an examination centre for the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS), has recommended that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cusat and CGFNS be revived at the earliest. The exam centre was closed down after the employees' unions at the university had crossed swords with the university authorities over the selection of invigilators for the exam. The agreement signed by the CGFNS approving Cusat as an examination centre for one year had ended in November. The Syndicate sub-committee, with Lopez Mathew as its convener, had held a sitting with the Director of the International Relations and Academic Admissions (IRAA) and representatives of employees' organisations on the issue. The IRAA was in charge of the conduct of the exam. Based on the inferences gathered during talks with the varsity officials and employees' representatives, the sub-committee has urged the Vice-Chancellor to take necessary steps to revive the MoU. The committee observed that there would be no hurdles in reviving the MoU, as the CGFNS authorities had not yet selected any other centre for the conduct of the examination. Also, the CGFNS authorities had not responded to the varsity decision. The university decision was taken in the wake of a move by the employees to prevent the conduct of the examination. The employees' unions had alleged that there were discrepancies in the selection of invigilators for the examination.
