PATHANAMTHITTA, FEB 3. The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) member, V.V.Augastine, has opined that a State-level core group comprising representatives of different churches should be set up for better inter-church as well as intra-church relations in the State. Mr Augastine who was here to attend the Central Travancore Orthodox Christian meet at the St. Stephen's Orthodox Cathedral grounds, was talking to reporters here this afternoon. According to Mr Augastine, the proposed State-level core group will be of great help in resolving the factional differences within the Church, besides promoting better relations with other religions. He said that a similar core group of churches formed in Delhi had been a great success. The Delhi core group had even held dialogues with various Hindu organisations like the Viswa Hindu Parishad, he added. According to Mr. Augastine, in India, the total Christian population, with 370 different denominations, was around 250 lakhs.
