Tea, shipping units to benefit
By Our Staff Correspondent
MUMBAI,
FEB. 3.
The interim budget 2004 presented by the Union Finance Minister, Jaswant Singh, and his indication that India has emerged as a major global economic power, has elicited a positive response from Indian industry.
Homi Khusrokhan, Managing Director, Tata Tea, said, "It was encouraging to see the Finance Minister speaking about a package of measures and one hopes, therefore, that other than the concessional loans there would be other measures to follow like the support provided for production of orthodox teas.''
Sanjay Mehta, Managing Director, Essar Shipping, said, "Consideration of tonnage tax for Indian shipping is a welcome and a forward step taken by the Government to make Indian shipping companies internationally competitive."
