Broadcasters to register interconnect agreements

NEW DELHI, FEB. 3. Even as it is still to come out with a clear picture on how it proposes to regularise conditional access systems for cable television, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today took the first step by issuing an order directing all those involved in broadcasting to register interconnect agreements.

In an order issued today, the TRAI said that any agreements entered into before this order had to be registered within thirty days and those entered hereafter would also have to be registered within thirty days of such agreements.

The Register of Interconnect Agreements (First Amendment) Regulations 2004 would apply to all broadcasters and their authorised distribution agencies and multi-service operators (MSOs). The order applies to all service providers of telecom including broadcasting and cable services. — UNI
