ADILABAD, FEB. 3. The Bhainsa police of Nirmal sub-division today apprehended two persons allegedly involved in the murder of a retired public prosecutor and his wife in Valegaon village under Bhainsa police station limits last month. The Nirmal Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vidyasagar Rao, on Tuesday produced the two offenders before newsmen at Nirmal divisional headquarters. The DSP said on the night of January 25, two unidentified offenders gained entry into the house of the retired official, Pande Girish Rao, (76). As there was no power in the town, the offenders gained easy entry. The victim, after taking dinner with his wife, Padmavati, (65), went to close the main door, when the duo, who was waiting for a chance, pounced on him. The victim was attacked with sticks resulting in his instant death. The offenders later battered Padmavati to death. The duo ransacked the house and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs. 30,000. The Adilabad Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, formed a special team to nab the culprits in the case. The Nirmal DSP was asked to monitor the case while the Bhainsa Circle Inspector, T. Sadanand Singh, the rural Sub-Inspector, Satyanarayana, and the town SI, Purshottam Reddy, launched a manhunt for the accused persons. The police got a breakthrough today when they nabbed two persons - Kunta Ramesh and Shaik Mastan - moving under suspicious circumstances in Valegaon village. The duo confessed to the crime and narrated as how they had hatched the plan to murder the couple and decamp with valuablese. Mastan was a historysheeter while Ramesh was a first-time offender. The SP, appreciating the quick detection of the case, announced a cash reward of Rs. 5,000 for the police team. The duo was remanded in judicial custody.
