Election to Corporation panels

KOCHI, FEB. 3. The election to the three Standing committees of the Kochi Corporation will be held tomorrow. When the deadline for filing nominations for the election ended today at 4 p.m., only the LDF nominees had filed the nomination papers. The LDF councillors K.J. Antony, Melly Joy and K.J. Basil filed nomination papers for the Welfare, Health and Tax Appeal Standing committees respectively. The formal election will be held at 10.30 a.m. tomorrow at the Corporation council hall.

Power supply disruption

Power supply will be disrupted between 8.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. in areas coming under the Vytilla, Panampilly Nagar, Perumanoor and Puthen Cruz sub-stations of the KSEB owing too repair work on the 110 KV line, the Vytilla office of the KSEB said.

Four held on theft charges

The Railway Protection Force today arrested four persons in connection with the theft of electrical equipment worth about Rs. 1 lakh from Ernakulam. The arrested persons are: Murugan of Manappattiparamba and Break Antony of Karunagapilly. Two scrap dealers, K.K. Oomer and Faizal, have also been arrested. They were remanded to judicial custody.

Cremation

The bodies of three teenagers who drowned in the Periyar river, near Malayatoor, on Sunday, have been kept in the mortuary at the naval hospital, INS Sanjivani. The bodies of the two brothers will be cremated at the Ravipuram crematorium on Wednesday. The three boys, all sons of Navy personnel, drowned while taking a bath in the Periyar.

Violin concert

A violin trio concert by Lalgudi G Jayaraman and others will be held at the Bhaktha Meera Temple, Lakshmy Dairy campus, Vytilla, on Wednesday evening, according to a press release issued here today.
