CM reviews law and order situation

HYDERABAD, FEB. 3. The State Government will ask the Centre to depute five police battalions to oversee pre-poll arrangements.

Reviewing the law and order situation in the State at a high-level meeting here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, directed authorities to impart modern training to the recently recruited 5,000 home guards, 1,000 special police personnel and four companies of Armed Reserve policemen, according to a press release. Training modules for these recruits should be modified, he added.

He said that sophisticated weapons would be acquired to help the police in maintenance of law and order. Mr. Naidu instructed higher-ups to strengthen security arrangements and intensify field operations.

The Home Minister, T. Devender Goud, the DGP, S.R. Sukumara, the Additional DGP (Law and Order), Umesh Kumar, and the IG (Intelligence), K. Durga Prasad, were present.
