By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD,
FEB. 3.
The Andhra Pradesh Ryotu Sangham has described as an "election stunt", the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's, promise that the Godavari Lift Irrigation project at Gangaram (changed from Devadula) would be completed soon.
Addressing a press conference, Kolli Nageswara Rao, president of the sangham and vice-president of the All-India Kisan Sabha, said the "empty promise" was made and some digging work taken up, keeping in view the coming elections, without allocating a single rupee. If the Government was serious, it should mobilise Rs. 840 crores, required for the first phase.
He said Mr. Naidu, while laying the foundation stone, had given an assurance that the project would be completed in three years time by spending Rs. 1,800 crores. Thirty months have passed but the Government did not show any interest in completing the project.
