Traffic curb at Karamana

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 3. Traffic movement will be restricted partially along the Karamana Road from February 10. An official release said this was being done to expedite the road widening work along the sector. Vehicular movement will be allowed from Killipalam to Karamana. Heavy vehicles will be diverted through the Thampanoor Flyover-Churakkadu Palayam-Chembonipura-Kochar Road-Kannettumukku sector. No traffic will be allowed from Poojappura-Melarannur-Jagathy-DPI area. Vehicles moving towards Palayam from Malayankeezhu-Thirumala area will have to take the Idapazhanji-Vazhuthacaud route. The vehicle inspection by Regional Transport Officials at Poojappura will be shifted to a different location.

Rigorous imprisonment

A 35-year-old man who was found guilty of illegally stocking spirit was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1 lakh by the Neyyatinkara Assistant Sessions Judge, E. Francis, here. In the event of default of the fine, the accused will have to undergo a further one-year period of rigorous imprisonment.

FRAT petition to Vajpayee

The Federation of Residents' Association (FRAT-Thiruvananthapuram) has petitioned the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to link the city to the proposed Kanyakumari-Sreenagar highway project. A petition to this effect was handed over to the Union Minister of State for Defence, O. Rajagopal.

Exhibition of printing presses

An exhibition of printing presses will be conducted for three days from January 14 onwards at the LMS compound in the city. Publishers and printers from various States in India will participate in the exhibition, a press release said here today.

A huge crowd seeking employment in the Gulf was seen in front of the newly-opened Regional Authentication Centre at Vazhuthacaud on Tuesday night. People were sleeping in front of the office to be at the head of the queue when the office opens on Wednesday morning.
